FOOD HUB

Chard Food Hub consists of 2 elements, The Community Fridge and The Food Pantry.

The Community Fridge

Is for all to use, without referral. It will be open when there is food available at set times and manned by a team of volunteers. It is also helpful to use the food saving it from going to landfill. The fridge is based in the front room and there are currently shelves of food in the food room which is at the back of the premises. Items here include dried food, tins, toiletries, pet food, and some baby food. We also have freezers which can have donations from stores and local shops.

The Food Pantry

Can be used on a referral basis from agencies in the area e.g. schools, social landlords, CAB etc. The help will be weekly and there will be a cost implication of £5 per week. Food will be delivered to the Hub once a week by a national charity, ‘Fareshare’. We will not know exactly what food will be delivered from week to week. The members will have a time slot to attend to collect their food. This support will be for a period of 6 weeks . This will enable residents to stock their cupboards, helping to save a bit of money. Why only 6 weeks? Chard has a severe poverty issue, this will allow us to support more residents through the year. If the member is still in need, they can access the fridge and be referred to the Lord’s Larder (Food Bank). Chard Food Hub works very closely with the Lord’s Larder. If the member needs more help after the 6 week period, they can come back onto the list, and work back to the top.

REPAIR HUB

We don’t like to put good things to waste!

Every other Saturday 9am – 12 noon

If you have an item that you’d rather not part with but is showing the test of time, bring it in to us at the Repair Hub and we will see if it can be saved. We cannot guarantee that every item can be repaired but will do our best to identify exactly what’s wrong and what options there are for repair. If we can fix it, we will. We have helped people identify parts that have failed and find an affordable replacement for things such as vacuum cleaners, identified and corrected basic electrical faults, and even restored a vintage cassette player. Save money and save waste, drop in and see us at the Repair Hub.

SEWING HUB

Come along every Tuesday morning from
10 – 12 and have a go!!

Our aim is to repair & reuse clothing etc instead of throwing away. Sewing Hub isn’t just a place to drop off your sewing repairs, but a weekly group where you can come and learn new skills, try your hand at sewing or learning how to change a zip, or take up your jeans, repair a seam etc. Alter curtains It’s a space and chance to learn a new skill and save money by repairing your clothes, or maybe a project such as making a new top? Our sewing hub team are more than happy to help and show you no matter if you haven’t picked up a pin before, or are an Armani in the making.
